Leevy is an Irish music project led by Gaeltacht-based Songwriter Amhlaoibh McSweeney.

With a sound born from rural Punk bands, Ambient music and Folk/Trad sessions, Leevy brings all of these influences together under McSweeney’s gripping and often sublime songwriting.

Based out of the Cork Gaeltacht, the act holds a strong sense of identity and humour, bringing an old, yet still unheard voice to the stage.

McSweeney’s punk-infused Folk style began taking shape in his early teens, when he first sat in as a session guitarist for Cork Folk group The Thirsty Scholars. He quickly became a driving force within the outfit, while in the meantime playing in local punk bands with his friends.

While attending a Music Technology course, he performed to hundreds nightly as a frontman to session bands, which allowed him to hone his performative presence, as he continued to write and produce throughout college.

At the age of 19, he wrote, produced and released his first album República (2017) with Rough Sunday and toured nationally and internationally. The duo have recently released another McSweeney produced EP I Wanna Marry You.

Throughout his career McSweeney has played at Electric Picnic, Body & Soul and various venues across the country (Levis’ Corner House, Dolans, Mike the Pies, etc.) and abroad.

In 2020, McSweeney produced renowned Songwriter Ger Wolfe’s album The Morning Star and, with Ger’s advice, McSweeney honed his songwriting throughout the pandemic.

Leevy‘s 2021 release “On the Wall of a Friend” was met with acclaim from their following and high critical praise.

“A testament to an artist following his own voice. Blending folk instrumentation, electronic beats and touches and an uncompromising vocal delivery On the Wall of a Friend Buried in an Avalanche is an EP that demands repeated listens – one of the most interesting Irish releases of the year so far.” – NotBad.ie

This latest outfit was rounded out by Multi-instrumentalist Darren Faul, bassist Arran Bradstock (MA in Experimental Sound Practice) and fellow Music Technology Alum, guitarist Jonathan Kool, with each member driving the act further.
